Police said officers were called to the school on Shakespeare Rd about 2pm to support staff during the incident.
“This involves a student and there is no ongoing risk to the school or the public.
“Police are aware the school initiated their own lockdown procedures as a response. This has now been lifted.”
The girls’ school earlier posted a message to parents saying there had been an “incident”.
“Carmel College is still in lockdown and dealing with an incident,” the school said on its website.
“The police are supporting us with an incident, the staff and students are safe.”
On Facebook, it had asked parents not to come to or phone the school.
“This may cause disruption to the management of this incident and could potentially place yourselves and/or our staff and students’ safety at risk.”
